The Uplifting
golf story of the week:
Golfer
with one arm and one eye gets hole in one Brave bomb blast victim Alan Perrin has notched up his first hole-in-one despite being nearly blind and having only one arm.
Alan, now 45, had to quit the Royal Marines in 1992 after suffering the horrific injuries in a training exercise explosion.
But he fell in love with golf, despite being left partially blind in his remaining eye.

I
wonder if this question has ever come up before from pros to the
regular novelist like me. I find it extremely sad that in Golf
when you mention that sport to anyone that is not a Golf
enthusiast only one name pops into mind “Tiger Woods”. The
sport in and of itself has gone from the sport of; Bobby Jones,
Gary Player, Gene Sarazen, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan; to
“Tiger” all along with a countdown clock to his return on the
Golf Channel.
It’s no wonder that the last
year’s ratings have sunk to almost new lows because of Tiger’s
absents, There is just no one else that captivates an audience
like Tiger and in my eyes that’s not good. Let me put it in to
my own terms, as a music radio personality there are two things
that keeps listeners tuned in to my radio show, good music, and
entertaining personality banter “you know DJ talk”.
When it comes to music if we pluck
just one artist off the show, say we stop playing Kid Rock for
example; people will still listen to the show even though at the
moment there are no songs being played by that one artist. Why
isn’t that the case in golf? I think people need to get over the
idea of what Tiger is and focus on the game as a whole. If not
what will happen to the game if god forbid Tiger is taken out of
the equation all together.
